Idea behind the foundation

Regularly it seems decisions are being made with the idea that efficiency (laziness) has priority above justice and care for the student. Of course there are also ones made where the interest of the student has been missed accidentally. The idea behind decisions could sound like: “If someone really wants to have his right enforced, he’ll fight for it” (file appeal). Sadly, starting a procedure could cost a lot of time and energy, mainly because of the frustration. This could be very demotivating for continuing the study or course. Support of a lawyer, who’s necessary sometimes, could cost a lot of money and he’s often viewed as a ‘non-fitting’ excessive artillery. Because of these kinds of reasons a lot of students choose to not take any action against the disadvantageous decisions that have been made to them, which I can emphasize. A consequence is that the wrongdoers learn that they can get away with their deeds, since they don’t find any consequence for their decision making.

However, I noticed that being duped by an unjustified decision can be equally frustrating and demotivating for continuing the study as litigating against the instance. There are times that it can even feel worse by not taking any action. While it's in the interest of the educational institutions that they serve their students right, generally they don’t facilitate any support to act against their own wrongful decisions. This is why Student Appeal strives to persuade students and other people of interest to take action and to keep on doing so against the injustice done to them by their educational institution. Personally I've experienced that the feeling of pressure is alleviated when I’m being supported, since litigating against an institution can feel like you’re fighting alone against a group that’s covering up for one another. On behalf of this foundation I want to give legal support wherever it’s possible.

The foundation Student Appeal is formally known in Dutch as: ‘Stichting Studenten Steun Bij Beroep en Bezwaar’. It was founded on June 8th, 2020, and it’s registered under KvK-number 78225795. It’s a one man foundation, completely being directed and represented by Anton Jasper.

About my persona

To give some insight in me as a person: I’m a Bachelor law student at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam since september 2019, where I followed some second year subjects next to my first year’s subjects. I’ve had to take a lawyer against my middle school when I was 15, since I got placed on the wrong education level. His support was necessary, since I was placed on Mavo level for two and a half years (third highest education level in the Netherlands), while I was able to finish Vwo (the highest level) in three and a half years, which normally takes six years, and I did this successfully after that time on Mavo. My past has contributed to choosing a law study and to fight neglected decisions of governing institutions, like educational organizations.
